Practical quality improvement tools themselves do not improve your project. They kick-start the process and guide you through it. They are the catalysts that help you focus and that make quality improvement manageable and achievable. They also help you document the results.

To choose a practical QI improvement tool to suit your situation, it is useful to think about:

• The size of your project
• Your capacity (time and expertise)
• The participating stakeholders, particularly the key population(s) you work with.

However, the most important thing is to begin. You can do that by trying any of the tools. And then change over to or add another one later on.

IQhiv collects, adapts, field tests and publishes practical Quality Improvement tools for use in HIV prevention. Some are relatively simple and quick, others are in-depth and need more preparation.
